How can I administer the HSPT during the 2020-21 school year?
STS is offering three options for HSPT testing.
What is the difference between proctored and un-proctored test administration?
- Traditional HSPT Format: in person testing with proctoring and paper test booklets
- HSPT E-Score: in person testing with proctoring, an online answer sheet, and a paper test booklet
- HSPT Online: internet based testing with or without a proctor. All test materials are available to the student online.
We believe the highest quality of results will be attained through in-school, proctored administration of the HSPT. This allows for a controlled environment with monitoring and support to enable a truly standardized setting for all testees. However, when it is not feasible to have proctors, (either physically or virtually) un-proctored assessments can still yield quality results.
How long do I have to wait for the results?
It depends on what reporting option works best for your school. E-Score reports are available within 15 minutes after submission. HSPT Online reports can be designed to be reported like the Escore, or processed by STS in the traditional method with optional groupings and/or reporting like the paper tests. STS processed reports are typically available 3-8 days from receipt of materials.
What is the per student cost?
For 2020-21, the standard service Lease/Score price for materials & scoring is $9.90. The E-Score price is $11.65, and the online price is $13.75
Are there multiple forms available?
Yes there are multiple forms available for all three administration types.
What about the Pre-HSPT for 7th graders?
Yes, the Pre-HSPT is available also for all three administration types.
What are the software requirements for the E-Score and/or HSPT Online?
Both only require a current browser and internet access. Windows, Macs, Chromebooks, & tablets should all work for testing. Cell phones are not
recommended for testing.
How does the HSPT Online work?
The school administrator schedules a test session for a specific date/time. She/he then assigns students to the test session. Students are provided with information to access the site and take the assessment at the designated date/time.
Why is STS providing the HSPT Online?
Since 1953, STS has remained committed to supporting educators by providing reliable assessments and scoring services at a reasonable cost. The HSPT Online will provide schools with a flexible and safe solution to test students during this global health crisis or any other situation that prevents testing in the classroom.
How is the HSPT Online different from the traditional paper-and-pencil HSPT?
The HSPT Online is the same standardized test as the traditional HSPT, but is accessible via any device with broadband internet. The HSPT Online is self-guided by the student, with the timing and directions built into the test.
How long is the HSPT Online?
The test is the same length as the paper-and-pencil HSPT, approximately 2.5 hours of testing time.
Is there a difference in scores for the HSPT Online versus the traditional paper-and-pencil HSPT?
No. The HSPT Online will be scored the same as the traditional paper-and-pencil HSPT and E-Score.
Will the HSPT Online offer testing accommodations?
Extended time will be an available accommodation with the HSPT Online. If other accommodations are required, a different format will need to be administered.
Are there testing windows for the HSPT Online?
As with the other administration options, users will schedule their test date and time according to their individual or group needs.
What if there are technical issues during testing?
If students experience technical issues, they should contact the school/test center who will need to contact STS to discuss available options.
